Legends 2022 Recap

Immediate Release: August 20, 2022
LEGEND Guy LaMotta honored & a Poker Run Around NEW YORK CITY…

LaMotta's Restaurant,& Manhasset Bay Marina, Port Washington, New York…Long Island Sound.

A GOOD TIME was had by all who attended and participated in the Celebration of Life for Guy LaMotta with our New York City Powerboat Poker Run, held on Saturday, August 20th, 2022. I personally had a super exciting weekend, starting on Friday, August 19th at 3:30 PM…I withdrew the $5,000.00 CASH Purse from a bank in Greenwich and got ROBBED in their parking lot!

As the crooks sped away on Glenville Road, they crashed just a mile down the road, but escaped  into the woods…the K-9 dog lost their scent on Lake Avenue…they vanished with the PURSE! The all-wheel drive get-a-way  car was loaded onto the flat bed and brought to the Greenwich Police Department for processing…all 10 air bags discharged and blood was all over the interior. The license plates were stolen as was the car…still awaiting further details.

Meanwhile, I had to go back to the bank and withdraw another $5,000.00 for Saturday’s Purse!

Back to the Event:

Our fleet of boats came from as far as Maine, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut and of course New York…and over 200 people attended the Award’s Party…”Dry Martini’s ” for everybody!

I was on-board Greg Abatte’s 40 Fountain Executioner Paceboat  for a 100+MPH start that……Eddie LaGuardia’s 34 Wright Cat and Wes Abraham’s 42 MTI Cat lead the way to the Throgg’s Neck Bridge with   Jeff Isola’s 32 Skater and Rob Hartman’s 35 Formula in close pursuit. Joey G’s 42 Cigarette and Anthony Musser’s  38 Scarab kept up the pace as we approached Hell’s Gate and that is where the Bilge Gremlins took a bite out of the pace boat and  down we went at the top of the East River. I flagged down the next boat to come by and I jumped ship onto John Salerno’s 353 Formula with 540 Merc Racing Engines, and off we went at 88 MPH for the rest of the run!

We all stopped at the basin and saluted the Statue of Liberty and proceeded up the Hudson River with the entire fleet…at FULL SPEED! We kept the Little Red Lighthouse to our starboard side as we went under the George Washington Bridge and then entered the Harlem River and navigated under the 15 bridges and waved to Yankee Stadium on our port side.

As we exited the Harlem river at hells gate, we turned to port and enjoyed running with 5 of our friends as we hooked up between the Whitestone Bridge and the Throggs Neck Bridge.

We all returned to LaMotta’s and enjoyed the Award’s Party, which produced these results:
