All the “Big Boys” came to the annual powerboat extravaganza called the NEW YORK CITY POWERBOAT POKER RUN, held on June 16th, 2007, based out of Liberty Landing Marina, Jersey City, NJ. The real action took place on the Hudson River starting with a Patriotic Parade of powerboats with American Flags displayed, taxiing from the Statue of Liberty to the George Washington Bridge and then taking-off for the Hi-Speed portion of the run to Checkpoint 1, Ossining Boat and Canoe Club and then a short leap to Checkpoint 2 at Haverstraw Marina and then back to Liberty Landing completed the 75 mile run.\
Lead by the OFFICIAL PACEBOAT of Pete Mazzo, the 46’ OUTERLIMITS, “No Discipline” kept everyone to his transom until the green flag was dropped…then only 4 boats got by him anyway! OUTERLIMITS dominated the fleet’s front runners with “Factory Billet”, “Keep Diggin II”, “No Discipline”, “Pure Adrenaline”, “Quick Getaway”, “TEAM OUTERLIMITS Raceboat”, “Miss Sonance”, “Raging Storm”, and ”Got Speed” at the front. Vinny Rifice’s “BAD”, Joe Vollaro’s “Cat in the Act”, Ron Barette and Chuck Bick’s, “Maxed Out”, and Sal Sciandra’s “Awesome”, were the front running cats of the day.
TEAM FOUNTAIN was well represented with the factory rep Craig Steinroeder piloting a 47’ Lightning powered by triple 525 Mercury Racing Engines and also featured was Bob Kolenberg’s new 89 MPH Hi-Speed Record Holder for center-consoles, the 38’ Fountain titled “Corporate Cars” and powered by 4- 300 HP Mercury outboards.
Norwest Marine, the Fountain Dealer from Norwalk, CT produced the winning Fountain’s of the Day with the Factory’s 47 Lightning landing a Full House and collecting $2,500.00, which they donated back to the sponsorship of the event.
Joe Lamberti’s 35 Fountain collected a spade’s Flush and received $1,000.00.
Greig Lutz in his 100+mph 35 Fountain, “Makin Friends”, collected 3-of-kind Aces and won $500.00 which he donated to Shore Dreams for Kids.
Mike Kolenberg in his brother’s 38 Fountain, collected 2 pair, A’s and 5’s, and won $500.00.
Ron Barrette and Chuck Bick collected 2 pair, Q’s and 7’s and collected $500.00.
The “Shore Dreams for Kids” program was able to collect almost $2,000.00 at the event through its raffle and donations.
The “Best Looking Boat” Award went to Jim Shultz in his 51 Outerlimits, “Factory Billet”. A close 2nd for “Best Looking Boat” was Sunsation Powerboat’s 43 “F 4”.
The “Best Looking Team”, dressed with sporty VELOCITY Shirts went to Robert Leider in his 30 Velocity, “Jagged Edge”. The biggest trophy of the day went to Peter Mazzo, because he exemplifies what the “Spirit of the NPBA” is all about…having good FUN with Fast Boats and the friendly people and members of the National Powerboat Association.
